I was SUCH a die hard fan of that show, but completely lost interest when Mulder left - agent Dogget (or anybody for that matter) just couldn't replace him and the personality chemistry/intellectual dynamic that he had with Scully! I wonder if this means he's coming back, and they're starting up the series again, six years after they shut it down?!?!! I'm excited, but don't want to get my hopes up. It's just weird thinking that they'd make another movie out of the blue if they werent planning on picking the series back up...hmmm. patience, must have patience. July 25th, bring it on! Oh, and Scully has her hair the longest she's ever had it, but you'll see in the preview:
www.xfiles.com

the visitation

a sideways discussion of progeny over a cup of Smithsonian coffee.

Customer: three large coffees, please.

Barista: that'll be $12.86

Cust: What? It's SMITHSONIAN COFFEE.

Cust: Look here (look-eah), all you've done is taken (tiken) regular coffee and slapped this sleeve on it that says "SMITHSONIAN COFFEE" and tripled the price!

Bar:I don't think you understand, THIS is SMITHSONIAN COFFEE.

Cust: It's exactly the same coffee!

Bar: but (busz) what (whasz) about the sleeve?

Cust: dont want the sleeve!

Cust2: JUST BUY THE DAMN COFFEE!

dialogue courtesy of British tv show Man Stroke Woman

1-800-BirdShrink

Spring is here.

I have this crazy bird outside my window.

I think he may be a little deluded... you know, like that duck in "Babe" (the pig movie, come on, you know you saw it, we all did) who thought he was a rooster. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So also it is written, “The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. 47 The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly. The Mystery of Resurrection50 Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory. 55 “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

May you all have a blessed Easter!

Some Good Advice

Don't ever hold in your farts.

They'll travel up your spine and into your brain. This was the FATTEST cat i have ever seen - it was like a dogcat)

Niki and I had a little early St Paddy's day cheer last Friday. It was a long week for us both - she working on the 2nd chapter of her senior thesis, and I substitute teaching at the school. We decided to go on an adventure, and found this cute mom and pop Irish pub in Middletown.

There was a gent strummin' and singin' out some Irish tunes on the corner stage...not the loud, rip-roaring drinking songs, but stuff like Carraghfergus and Danny Boy...very ambient with a pinch of melancholy.

And, it being a friday in Lent, and being the good Catholic girls we are, we opted for the fish and chips rather than the shepherds pie or braised lamb. But it was SO friggin' good - the cod was very fresh, hand battered, and the chips were thick and golden.

So in the cozy, dimly lit room, we had an intimate conversation that sprung from the general topic of literature, meandered through feminist critics, metaphysical poetry, streamed into a mutual celebration of Donne and Hopkins, then Thoreau trickled in, and it all kinda waterfalled when we reached Emerson . . . she was shocked when i told her i was an Emerson fan! So i reasoned with her, explaining that to appreciate where a poet is coming from, to just "get him", is not the same as declaring him the greatest poet.

I think there are as many styles and as many messages to convey as there there are experiences able to be had and emotions able to be felt. And while you can judge poetry, it's not any more black and white than human emotion and experience is. Just like our human experiences, whether they be good or bad, something can be learned from them. I do believe that, like all literature, poetry should be moral. For what are men but moral beings? And why would we write other than to convey some very human message about how man has acted/is acting/ought to act? ...I suppose it is the poetic ideal to write about ideal sorts of human situations, tales of properly ordered emotions/passions, proper rewards/punishments -- as Plato recommends in the Republic, for the children to be properly disposed toward virtue, they ought to be instructed with stories in which the hero is rewared, the villain punished accordingly as they are virtuous/vicious. That is all well and good, and it should exist. But more often than not, people are not going to relate to it. you need the nitty gritty, and the real, the stuff that really touches you and grabs you. But you also need the perfection to exist as your aspiration. After all, where would we be without any ideals?

Yes, i think some poetry is really good, and yes, some sucks (like the kind Geoff likes). But so much of it has to do with the experiences you've had and what you can relate to.

So, what do you guys (i refuse to say y'all... i'm not quite there yet) think -- is there a greatest poet to date? what are your thoughts on poetry? -- about whose poetry is better than whose, or superior styles of poetry? Because i have my own thoughts and feelings on the matter, but this is just me talking...cuz 'dis is my blog and that's what i'm supposed to do here.

. . . Anyway, altogether, last Friday was SO NICE - it was refreshing to just sit and have a nice conversation with a wonderful, intelligent woman=) (this is me beaming: BEAM, BEAM!)

. . .Now if only i could find me a MAN . . .

(no offense, Nikole =)

And now, meet Babette! a local regular (is that redundant?) who came w/ her hubby and son. She was histerical! Very sweet, uber-drunk, and uber chatty. So she came over and made friends with us...

So, we'll be back for sure, it was a great place. Mary spent the day "tidying up" around the house which, she says, was very enjoyable... gosh, I just don't know any other people like that - people that find inner peace by organizing and making external peace (hmm, do you Em??)

After a few days the color mellowed out, and Mary decided she wanted to keep her dye job. Through dyeing the individual is able to leave behind a part of herself that is unhealthy, and move on to a fresh new outlook on life. More importantly, she sees herself in a new light, and that new self image is the catalyst for healing and renewal...and, if it makes her look even hotter, well, it's a bonus.

Mary and I had both had a horrible week, our respective reasons actually being pretty much the same...we'd both been caused much un-needed stress and drama by two completely different early 20 something Army guys who both happen to be named "Ryan"...funny....

So we were still up at 2am hanging at home on the balcony, chillin' (literally...in about 30 degrees), she was puffing on her signature Marb Reds, and i was sipping smoke from my girlie tobacco pipe.

Anyway, we had both had it with men [sorry Geoff, i mean we had both had it with two particulars specimen of "homo sapiens"(who i cannot even bear to call "homo sapiens"...they're more like "homo stultus") belonging to the class of "Armed Forces" and being known by the particular denomination of "Ryan"]

We were done being pissed because it took to much emotional energy, and the well of tears had long since dried up.

...So, there remained only one thing to do:

Dye our hair.

So, i dragged her off to CVS pharmacy in the middle of the night (our last mid-night drugstore run had been to buy icecream and cosmos, of course). The clerk at the counter was the same one who had been there the previous night, so we chuckled to ourselves, wondering what he thought.

So, we slathered our hair up in that chemical goo that they try to cover up with fruity/floral scents but never quite works (the cherry cough syrup principle), plop down on the easy chair together (because we don't have a couch yet ;P, and start watching "Willow".

About an hour later, our hair emerged from their chrysales of towel turbin, mine as a deep auburn, and Mary's a honey-gold.
She didn't like it though, so no pic was allowed...needless to say, we'll be doing hers again tomorrow =P

But the point is, we both really needed a change, and now feel empowered, for the exterior change is evidence of an inward decision - to put it more philosophically - "Therefore ain't no guy gonna mess with these hot mamas again! Yea, tha's right, bitches! Smack-dizzle, as it were."

(the pic on the bottom was taken last week - its to show the contrast)

News from my Fortress of Solitude

Sorry to have been MIA for the past 2 weeks! It's taken that long for the ridiculous cable peeps to get our connection up and running! So, Irene and I moved my stuff over on Fri the 8th, then
we had a mini-beerfest =)

Mary moved in the next day, and brought over most of the furniture, including a futon frame that i'm using as my bed - yay! ...i've been kickin' it Carmelite style - sleeping without a mattress =P but, no, sorry to disappoint, not for my Lenten penance - i'm just cheap, and was holding out for a cheap mattress deal on craigslist...but that fell through, so i ended up buying a new one anyway - which is coming tomorrow! I can't wait!!
And here's my awesome roomate, Mary, sarcastic no-nonsense Airforce chick in her 5'4'' glory. We have already bonded over Stargate SG-1, hating men, dangly earings, icecream, coffee, Sarah Brightman, and back massages. I proposed the other day that we just cave in and become a Lesbian couple, heck, we're already living together.

Here's my bedroom...

And one view of the livingroom. I walk in the doors and am immediatetly hit with the warm wafting aroma of Auntie Anne's pretzels and various incarnations of high fructose corn syrup in the forms of gummy insects. I couldn't even consider caving in and getting a tastey treat because I'm painfully aware of how sick i'd be afterward from all that sugary garbage. . .

I hear the giggly voices of bubblegum chewing teen girls, as they hang out in Claire's and Rave, sporting their push-up bras, tight jeans and lip gloss.

And the funny thing is, that in my head, i still feel and think i'm one of them. Until I saunter slowly by a mirror in the cosmetics department (damn cosmetics department) and see the tired eyes, ratty hair, and hoodie sweatshirt meant to cover up an ever pudgier midsection

But i keep walking, past Forever 21, and the cute shoe stores, and head into the GNC . . .

THE GNC, PEOPLE!!! The friggin' GNC, the vitamin/health supplement store where the OLD PEOPLE go. The one that always looked so boring as a teen, and why would anyone ever want to go in there?

So I spent some time browsing the herbs, thought i might get some ginger and fenugreek, then I picked up my probiotics and digestive enzymes . . . after debating for a few minutes over whether to buy the fruity flavored chewables, or the grown-up capsules. . . I won't tell you which i got. . .

So, Life is funny. . . actually it's Age that's funny. I think that no matter how old you actually get, you always think of yourself as being a certain age -- it's like your own archetypal image of yourself, the real you. At least, this is what I've been told by old people . . . REAL old people (not 20-30 somethings) You know it's funny how we totally classify people by age, and really what differentiates people isn't age but quantity of experience, and types of experiences. And, it's true that experience and age for the most part go hand in hand, but not always. No indeed, not always.

TGIF!

I SO need to go out, have a good laugh and a good strong drink!!

Only problem is, all my friends are in Cali . . . I took the metro into DC, and met up w/ my friend Michael, who had flown out with some members of the Institute of the Incarnate Word from San Jose, CA. It was SO nice to see a familiar face from back home =)

It was freezing, between 10-20 degrees, and we had a wee bit of rain, fortunately not much. The Marchers were roughly 200, 000 strong. I was amazed at the startling lack of Pro-Abort protesters! I saw, and i kid you not, a grand total of 1. It was completely different from the hostile, riotous protests at the 1st San Fransisco March that i went to back in 2005. Totally different experience. Michael was saying that it was prob b/c they've been doing it for 35 yrs out here, and DC is the seat of SO many protests and demonstrations that it's just old hat for the people here and not a big deal anymore. I guess so.

I ran into a couple TAC grads, and the Christendom crowd, so that was pretty cool. There were tons of Roman collars to be seen, and many a monk clad in hoods, flowing robes and beanies.

An amazing rainbow came out after the showers, and it made me think of Noah and the first rainbow...and perhaps this one might be a sign as well, of hope and peace, that someday soon the mass execution of our dear little ones will end...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://yggdrasiltheworldtree.blogspot.com/2008/01/dc-march-for-life.html' title='D.C. It's hard to resist the nicotene allure. ALL my co-workers, bosses, cooks, bussers - shit, even the food smokes! (No, the shit doesn't smoke, that is what is called an "interjection" my friend) But i have resisited so far, and am pretty determined to stay smoke free... although come to think of it, it probably wouldn't make a difference cuz of all the 2nd hand i'm breathing in anyway...hmmm...( get behind me, satan!)

Anyway, my one boss, Angel, is the kind of manager that tries to get you to like him by pretending to be like "one of the guys", he's chummy, smack talks everybody, he's really sarcastic, always joking. I thought he was cool at first, but now he's starting to annoy me.

I happened to start like, 2 days before the Corporate inspection (wait to go, Anna), so last night i stayed until 11:30 pm (others stayed till 12:30 am) sweeping floors and cleaning Cholula bottles...for $2.13 and hour. I coulda left at, like 10pm, but, you've gotta understand this about being a server ( some of you know what i'm sayin), it's like being in the army - you're comrades, you don't bail when everyone's in deep shit together - you scratch my back, i scratch yours, we're all in it together...and that's a really cool thing. If i hadn't stayed, the walls probably would've heard "Hey, what's up w/ the new girl bailing? WTF?! little bitch, who the hell does she think she is?" it can get ugly. Anyway, i HAD to stay, even though i didn't have to stay, y'know? Then I had to get up at 6am to work at the school, i was dog tired.

There's like this Romanian sub-culture thing going on, too. About 4 servers, that i know of so far, are from Romania, which is pretty cool -they have neat names like Vlad, and Raluca. And they have those dark, intense facial features. But they'll talk to each other in Romanian, which sounds cool, kinda Russiany, but gets annoying cuz they do it alot, and God knows what they're talking about...that, and others speak Spanish alot...so, i'm kinda feeling a bit like a minority.

Today this one girl walked up to me and went "Yo-ho-ho!", I was like "OK??", then she left, and this other girl was like "I think she just called you a ho...haha, just kidding". Their weird. So, i dunno, we'll see how it goes.

I promise to write a happy, positive cheery post soon =) I know i've been kinda using this blog as a bit of a "Rant-oruim" lately, so i do apologize for that. I don't mean to be a downer, but it really does help to communicate frustrating stuff.

You guys rock.

YAY! I HAVE A ROOMMATE!!

Her name is Mary, and she is Irene's brother's landlord's sister.

We hadn't met yet, when she called me Friday night. We made plans to meet at Starbucks on Sunday afternoon to, i guess interview each other, is the best way of putting it.

She's on time, i'm a bit late cuz i got lost-ish...hehe...i told her that was a very accurate first impression of me. She didn't seem phased.

She is 23 yrs old, from the East coast, and was in the Airforce for a year. Was discharged for medical reasons, but has every intention of going back to active duty. Comes from a family of six and has been living with her (married) older brother for the 8 mo's since she was discharged, and is SO eager to move out.

With very close cut brown hair, clad in a white button down collared shirt, dark jeans and a leather jacket, she seemed a bit formidable (albeit shorter than myself, but sometimes shorter people are scarier) . . .until I noticed the very dangly silver/purple earrings, a small coffee stain on the front of her blouse, and a faint nicotene aroma... Then I knew there was some fun in there =)

Mary is a serious sort of person, yeah, choleric for sure, but very approachable and considerate. We had a good, long chat about compatibility, and i think it's really gonna work. She doesn't bull shit and she's a good communicator (which i'd say is the MOST important thing) we spent alot of time telling each other horror stories about our previous roommate disasters and were happy to discover many areas of compatibility, and the one that i would have to say sold me, was that she goes through heavy metal phases, loves bohemian/eastern decor, candles and Loreena McKennit.

What more could i want?

So, tomorrow afternoon we begin our quest to find our new home =)

Thankyou, St Joseph!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://yggdrasiltheworldtree.blogspot.com/2008/01/yay-i-have-roommate.html' title='YAY! I Love You. I really enjoyed it -both Butler and Swank have awesome versatility as actors, and they had good chemisrty together, which was surprising cuz i never woulda seen that. The movie is funny, sweet, sad , endearing and original. My only real complaint was that there was one too many weird kissing scenes, like the characters were bent on kissing anyone and everyone to find out if they were the 'right one', especially Hilary Swanks BFF, played by Lisa Kudrow, but then again she was supposed to be extreme and ditzy for comic relief, so, what can ya' do? Anyway, overall, i'd say it's worth the $, i liked it, but it's definitely chick flick material.

Anyways, afterwards we met up with some girls from the local Catholic YA group, and hit O'Meara's for a pint, in the spirit of the movie. It was really nice to just hang out, chat and get to know some cool new people.

Irene, Maria, Gina, Mary Catherine, Amanda

Lynch Those Corporate S.O.B.'s!

My interview sucked. Who schedules an interview during a meeting?!
i almost walked out. i should have.

Any cheery, peppy outgoing-ness had utterly drained out of me over the course of that long, boring hour. So by the time he sat down, i was feeling disrespected and enraged. But, i decided to go through with it anyway since i didn't want to feel like i had completely wasted 2 hours of my life. A mistake.

On top of being royally pissed, i was still jet lagged and wiped out. The end result being that i forced the cheery, gung-ho attitude too much for some questions, and then completely blank-stared him or bumbled out random lame-ass answers for the other questions.
He told me that, based on my interview, he couldn't hire me as i seemed to betray the symptoms of a manic depressive... Huh huh huh...NO SHIT?!

Anyway, so that's that.It shouldn't depress me that i failed the interview for a mindless blue collar job, the reasons all being circumstantial. But somehow, it just bites.

...jackass....

Just gotta keep tellng myself that I'M AWESOME.

But, on the bright side, there was a nice, funny guy at Quizno's today who made me laugh and put a smile on my face. And even though it was such a small thing, it really brightened my mood. Sometimes all it takes is just one good-hearted, sincere person to turn you back around.

Move Over, Gisele Bundchen...

I'm a model!

Yes, you read it right. But i haven't exactly entered the world of stilletos, glitz and anorexia

Here's the scoop:

A friend of mine has her own line of shirts, and was looking for a freckled redhead with a "realistic body" (that's how she politely phrased it =). The money was really good, so what the heck? A week later i found myself in a photo shoot, sporting a line of hip, hilarious shirts designed especially for...<ahem>

...moms and pregnant women...

Yeah, yeah, chuckle all you want...

But i'll have you know that i don't model the maternity wear, although we momentarily considered stuffing a basketball up my...yeah... Or, you can add an "URGENT" attachment to those really cool priority prayers - like the ones from your favorite Aunt asking that you'll meet and fall in love with your dream guy, or the one from your dream guy begging to meet you soon . . .

Anyway, the point being, i'm about to find out who my true friends are b/c i'll know if you've prayed for me or not.

So, I think I've already got the management at Friday's wrapped around my little finger, they WANT me, "It'll be no problem wha'soever, like a piece a' cake, a piece a' crumb cake." (10 pts for anyone who can reference that movie quote. Come on, Amy!)

I am SO looking forward to cash in my pocket on a daily basis - this is the first time in my life where i've actually had to wait two weeks for a paycheck - no pocket $ from tips. It's a hard life. Did you know that VA minimum wage is a whopping $5.35?!?! I almost up and died when i discovered that. What is the deal, people?! But Friday's has a bar and should be a pretty happenin' place, so i'm hoping to break even.

And if for some reason things don't pan out at Friday's, there's always Hooters right across the street.

Is it true?

Is Seasonal Affective Disorder really bad in Wisconsin?

In Wisconsin people drown themselves in snow. Kinda scary, but not so bad, no bloody handkerchiefs, no laudanum, no death from consumption. It's all good.

And then God said "Meh heh heh heh"

Last week, upon arriving home from Virginia for Christmas, i come down with "a cold". Gosh, it's a really bad cold, Mom - and i'm running a fever, and my throat's REALLY red, Mom. Oh, honey, i'm sure you're fine. You're up and walking around. If you had Strep, you'd be laid out for days! So, after "days" go by, mmm, bout 5 of 'em, i'm still feverishly ill, and my throat looks like a tenderized sirloin. I pay a visit to my friendly neighborhood doc, who "tickles" my tonsils ( i.e., sticks the long q-tip thing well past my tonsils, like he's fishing for something in my feet ) and pronounces my terrible fate - It's Streptococcus alright.

And God saw all that He had made... and reminisced about that Day 3, which was kind of an off day for God, the muse wasn't quite with Him, but once you've started you can't just put creation on hold. So he sat down, had a triple espresso and out from the Divine Logos popped a naughty little thing called Bacterial Infection...

And behold, it was frickin' HILARIOUS.

So, i'm bummed, but i'm doing ok. Just glad that i don't live 200 yrs ago, cuz then i'd probably be dead. I'm good at counting my blessings. I'm wearing a bit thin, but it's alright.

Worse could happen.

...and i think that the demon, Worse, heard that thought pop out of my fevered brain.

And he decided to happen.

It's now my 2nd day on the new antibiotic. And i've developed a few itchy bumps. I think to myself, these may be the "skin eruptions" listed under the potential side effects of the drug, and hope to God that "hallucinations and dementia" (side effects #7 and #8) aren't right around the corner. Doesn't seem too serious, so i sit it out for a day.

Sunday morning i'm feeling pretty good, but i have more itchy bumps. Hey, Mom, i think i have hives. Oh that sounds like a serious allergic reaction, sweetie, you'd better go to the doctor and get a different prescription.

Off i go. And i'm now sitting on the exam table. Well, Anna, these sure don't look like a normal Strep rash. And they can't possibly be hives. . .

It's hard to believe...but this really looks to me like the Chicken Pox. . .

my eyes bulged from their hot acheing sockets. . . and clad meekly in tissue paper, before my good doctor, and God Almighty, i said

F%#*!

And then, for some reason, having Chicken Pox on top of Strep on top of TB was the funniest thing i could possibly imagine happening to me . . .

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH!!!!

SHIT!

Are you EFFING kidding me?!?!

And then for some reason, having Chicken Pox on top of Strep on top of TB was the most tragic thing i could possibly imagine happening to me.

And I wept bitterly - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I ping-ponged between hilarity and despair for a few minutes. Took my prescription, and with teary eyes and a chuckle, walked out the door.

So, here i am, 3 prescriptions later. My left eye twitches alot.
I've never had so many drugs coursing through my veins at once.

"And then God saw all that he had made, and behold it was very. . . "

. . .Y'know, I'd really like to talk to a Hebrew Biblical scholar about the real translation of that word.

Caving For A Good Cause

I've been a blog-naysayer from the very beginning. The amount of time wasted on these infernal things is just shameful. But if ever there was a time and a reason for me to enter the realm of blogging, it is now. Now that I am far removed, thousands of miles away from those I cherish and hold dear, the ones who make me laugh and cry and the ones who make soda come out of my nose, or make me piss my pants. I am adventuring in a far away land, and my heart is no longer here nor there, materially in one place, spiritually in another - It now finds its home in cyberspace, inextricably bound to the World Tree, whereby it may remain connected to every world in which I have ever lived. Opportunity is now limitless. Thoughts flow freely, experiences are shared. Let our minds leave our private worlds, let our thoughts, ideas and experiences course freely through the roots and branches of Yggdrasil where they may be shared and united.

This blog is for my sisters and for those friends who are to me as brothers and sisters, that we may once again share our lives, and be forever entwined. Despite what the relentless laws of time and space may say, I say let us defy them and remain together!
